Smoke Alarm Installation Gladstone, Tannum Sands & Boyne Island
Queensland’s smoke alarm laws are changing for owner-occupied homes. From 1 January 2027, existing owner-occupied homes must have compliant photoelectric smoke alarms installed in every bedroom, in hallways connecting bedrooms and on every level of the property.
The alarms must also be interconnected, so when one alarm activates, every connected alarm sounds. For many Central Queensland homeowners, that means older standalone or outdated smoke alarms may need to be replaced or additional alarms installed.
Reef Solar & Electrical provides smoke alarm inspections, replacements and compliant interconnected smoke alarm installations across Gladstone, Tannum Sands, Boyne Island and surrounding areas.

Is Your Home Ready for the 2027 Smoke Alarm Deadline?
Queensland owner-occupiers have until 1 January 2027 to ensure their smoke alarms meet the current requirements. Rental properties and properties being sold have already been required to comply with the upgraded rules since 1 January 2022.
To meet the requirements, smoke alarms must be photoelectric, comply with Australian Standard AS 3786-2014, be less than 10 years old and be interconnected throughout the property.
They must also be installed in every bedroom, in hallways connecting bedrooms to the rest of the dwelling and, where there is no hallway, between bedrooms and other parts of the home. Multi-level properties require alarms on each level.
Reef can inspect your existing alarms, identify what needs upgrading and install a compliant interconnected system suited to your property.
